Commerce Christianity Civilization

‘Der praktische Judengeist [ist] zum parktischen Geist der christlichen Völker geworden… Welches ist der weltliche Kultus des Juden? Der Schacher. Welches ist sein weltlicher Gott? Das Geld” (Karl Marx, Fischer 6059, Seiten 55-56).
Der Jude… taucht unter…, um Perlen zu suchen (Jelinek/Werner Sombart: Die Juden and das Wirtschaftsleben, Leipzig 1911, Seite 320).
“Sombart cites many passages from the Talmud and other Jewish religious books which reflect close connection between the Jewish religion and the commercial spirit”, writes Abram Leon. ‘Thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow’. Deuteronomy 15.6. ‘The righteous therefore is prosperous here, and the wicked here suffers punishment’. Rabbi Eleazar said: ‘The righteous love their money more than their bodies’ Sotaxiia. ‘And Rabbi Isaac also taught that a man always have his money in circulation’” (Abram Leon: The Jewish Question, page 71). Leon fährt fort: “For many centuries, the Jews continued to be the sole commercial intermediaries between the East and the West… The Arab postmaster in Spain, ‘Ibn-Kordadbeh, in the Book of Routes (857-874), mentions” that the Jews “voyage from the Occident to the Orient, and from the Orient to the Occident, now by land and now by sea. They bring from the Occident eunuchs, women slaves, boys, silk, furs and swords… On returning they are laden with musk, aloes, camphor, cinnamon and other products of Eastern lands… In the Sixth Century… The Archbishop of lyons, Agobard, complains… that the jews were selling Christian slaves in Spain” (pp 123-125).
Leon points to the Jewish usury and commerce and cites Marx:
‘Both usury and commerce exploit the various modes of production. They do not create it, but attack it from the outside. Usury tries to maintain it directly in order to exploit it ever anew… Usury centralizes money wealth, where the means of production are disjointed. It does not alter the mode of production but attaches itself to it as a parasite, and makes it miserable. It sucks its blood, kills its nerve and compels production to proceed under even more disheartening conditions… Usurer’s capital uses capital’s method of exploitation without its mode of production’ (page 150).
“The accumulation of money in the hands of the Jews did not arise from a special mode of production, from capitalist production. Surplus value (or surplus product) came from feudal exploitation and the lords were obliged to yield part of this surplus value to the Jews” (page 77), so that “Jewish property must be considered as the fruit of their usurious and commercial operations” (page 138). “The usurer makes loans to the feudal lords and to the kings for their war expenditures. He lends to the peasants and the artisans in order to allow them to pay their taxes, rents etc” (page 143). Nathan Weinstock (in his Introduction to Abram Leon’s Jewish Question, page 60): “Marx identified Jewry (Judentum) with the bourgeois or commercial spirit”.

[Marx zitiert Oberst Hamiltion (über die Juden in Amerika): “Mammon ist ihr Götze, sie beten ihn nicht nur allein mit ihren Lippen, sondern mit allen Kräften ihres Körpers und ihres Gemüts an” (Marx, Fischer 6059, Seite 56)].
Damit ist “Geld zur Weltmacht und der parktische Judengeist zum praktischen Geist der christlichen Völker geworden… Die chimärische Nationalität des Juden ist die Nationalität des Kaufmanns [‘merchant’], überhaupt des Geldmenschen” (Marx, ibid, Seiten 56-58).
Capitalist “breakthrough”, observes Mike Haynes, “came in western Europe… because it was a more backward area of the world and less controlled and regulated than the great empires of the Middle East, India and China” (Socialist Review Dec 1999).
Immanuel Wallenstein regards capitalism as being “the consequence of a breakdown in the historic barriers against this particular version of an exploitative system… The fact that China, India, the Arab World and other regions did not go forward to capitalism is evidence that they were_ to their historic credit_ better immunized against the toxin” (new left review Nov/Dec 1997).
And Chris Harman points to the Europe’s “backwardness”, which ‘made it easier for its merchant [Kaufmann] and artisan classes to transform the whole of society in their own image” (SR, Dec 1999)_ wie die bibelschreibenden Geldmenschen: ‘Menschen machen, ein Bild, das uns gleich sei’ (Austrian psychiatrist Dr. Wolfgang Berner).
Norman O. Brown (Life Against Death, page 220) points to the “Satanic character of commerce”. And “the Western Church of the late eleventh and twelfth centures”, writes Harold J. Berman (The Formation of the Western Legal Tradition, page 338), “beleived in the possibility of reconciling commercial activity with a Christian life”: ‘Commerce Christianity Civilization’. Wiener Justizstallungen: ‘Devil’ as archetype of money (‘pecunia olet’. Geld = Kot) = ‘Lord of the world’.
The “way of life” of “Jewish farmers (who did not till the soil themselves)… is [also] proof of Jewish landed property being a result of commercial transactions… Leon directed attention to the fact that the land belonging to Jews essentially represented the fruits of speculative operations of a usurious or commercial nature” (Weinstock, op cit, pp 42, 44).
Jewish Commercial and usury capital remained also outside the process of production, did not produce goods. it produced more money by means of money_ devilish pure!
Devil as the archetype of money ‘sustaining the economic activity… flowered into capitalism’ (Sühnegeld).
‘Money = visible god’. Jehovah = pure devil. ‘Geld als der eifrige Gott Israels: Weltgott… Devil… is the lord of the world’ (Sühnegeld).
Leon cites Marx: ‘It is always the same goods into which money is converted in the first phase and which, in the second phase, is converted into more money’ (page 130).
The two phases of commercial capital are also money-goods, and (the same) goods-more-money. By usury the middle term ‘goods’ disappears. Money makes more money, the latter makes still more money (interest and compound interest).
“Thanks to the extremely high rate of interest_ it fluctuated between 43 and 86 per cent_ a large number of estates of the nobility had passed into the hands of the Jewish usurers… According to the historian Rigord, they [learned rabbis] had acquired almost half of Paris… Their credit were spread throughout villages, cities and suburbs, everywhere. A great number of Christians had even been expropriated by the Jews because of debts” (pp 145, 146), which is in the present neoliberal era_ as modern usurers, IMF and World Bank, have replaced the function of the Jews_ the (re)current debt crisis:
“Der außerhalb Europas direkt durch Plünderung, Versklavung und Raubmord erbeutete Schatz floß ins Mutterland zurück und verwandelte sich hier in Kapital” (Karl Marx: Das Kapital, Kröner, Seite 383), das in Kontinuität von ‘Plünderung, Versklavung und Raubmord’ in form von IMF und WB in die Dritte Welt zurückfließt, squeezing it dry. “In six of the eight ‘boom’ years from 1990 to 1997, developing countries paid more in debt service (interest plus principle repayments) they have received in new loans” (Kevin Danaher: 10 Reasons to Abolish the IMF and World Bank, pp 22-23). “The International Monetary Fund and the World Bank… were established… in 1944 when most of the developing world was under colonial rule. By the time these countries gained political independence they were economically in thrall to the IMF and other international financial institutions. The World Bank became the West’s policeman for economic policy in developing countries, particularly Africa” (Socialist Review, November 1995).
“Judaism… advocat[es] a virtually endless continuation of the extension of its worldly powers” (Eine deutsche Art zu sühnen: ‘fascist roots of Jewry…, Jewish roots of fascism’). It softens “internal class conflicts in the interest of the cohesion of the national community in its confrontation with the outside world of the ‘strangers’…, granting the power of domination over the ‘strangers’ to Judah”, writes Mészáros (Marx’s Theory of Alienation, page 29) and cites from Isaiah (LXI, 5): ‘And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers’
[It is the same exploitative divine culture: ‘You shall be only my pruning-knife, and the world… shall be my manure-dung for my beloved vineyard’ (God, cited by Luther, see in Justizstallungen)].
The formidable practical vehicle of this expanding domination was the weapon of ‘usury’”, which reached its apogee in the “metamorphosis of Judaism into Christianity”.
In his discussion of “the rise of financial power”, points Parick Bond (Global Apartheid, page 240) to its “most important nerve center”: “The Washington/Wall Street axis combining the WB, IMF, US government economic agencies and private-sector financial institutions… International finance will continue to heighten world poverty and inequality”. “In a document of 1090, the Jews of Prague are depicted as traders and money-changers, possessing large sums of silver and gold

Jewish slave merchants, as well as other Jewish traders… are also mentioned in documents of 1124 and 1226. The interest rate among the Jewish bankers of Prague… fluctuated between 108 and 180%
[Today: “A massive 94 percent of the annual economic output of the world’s poorest countries goes to repaying debt. For the most heavily indebted poor countries that figure stands at 125 percent” (Social Review, June 1998). “Between 1980 and 1992 the poorest countries paid three times more to the IMF and World Bank than their original debt… The debt burden of the poorest countries kills 19,000 children every day, workers suffer wage cuts, longer hours and greater exploitation” (SW 9 Sep 2000).
“Another measure of US interest in the NSS [‘The rise of the NSS [National Security State] was a product of U.S. planning and strategy’ (hos d’oeuvre)] is the economic stake of US business, which is large and has been growing by leaps and bounds over the past decade… Adding these in would push the US bank loan total in Latin America to somewhere in the vicinity of $100 billion. And loan rates have been high…, banking has been a bonanza business, and the US majors with a large presence in Latin America have made very large profits. Citibank… is reputed to have been making more money in Brazil than in the United States in recent yeats” (Edward S. Herman: The Real Terror Network, page 121).
“The total debt of less developed countries to banks doubled from approximately $819 billion in 1982 to $1712 billion in 1993, after over $1.4 trillion had already been appropriated from these poorer societies by foreign banks. This process continued, and was sufficient to collapse these societies into growing chaoses of malnutrition, illiteracy, morbidity and destruction. These Third World government debts in general, in turn, were themselves largely contracted by agents within the society placed into rule by US-supported military seizures of ruling power. They were then sustained in rule by external military and financial institutions” (John McMurtry: The Cancer Stage of Capitalism, page 119)]…
In 1085, Judith, the wife of Prince Ladislag Herman of Poland, strove to buy back some Christian slaves from Jewish merchants… In 1389, the Jew Sabetai becomes proprietor of a section of the Cawilowo domain. In 1390, the Cracow Jew Josman receives the property of Prince Diewiez of Pszeslawic as security. In 1393, the Posen Jew Moschko takes possession of the Ponicz manor. In 1397, the lands of the Abiejesz manor are pledged with the Posen Jew Abraham. These lands of the nobles are allotted to the Jews with complete property rights”. Leon points to the “Jewish usury whose archaic character emphasizes its rapacity” (pp 184, 185, 152).
